For the Mocha Fudge Sauce:

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1 cup dark chocolate (chopped)

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee granules

  • 1 tbsp butter

For the Coffee Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 2 tbsp strong brewed coffee (cooled)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

Directions

  1. Make the Red Velvet Sponge:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour four 9-inch cake pans.
    In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
    In another bowl, beat together eggs, oil, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and food coloring. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
    Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
    Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting.

  2. Prepare the Mocha Fudge Sauce:
    In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer. Add the chopped dark chocolate and instant coffee granules, stirring until smooth.
